A New Path
What Research and Experience Tell Us
In civil society, communication is not merely about announcements or promotion; it is one of the most fundamental domains that determines how an organization builds connections, fosters trust, and creates social change.
Yet according to the Perception of Civil Society in Türkiye survey we published in 2024, 80% of society has never engaged with an CSO. This shows how difficult it is to reach partners for the just, equal, and inclusive world we envision. Moreover, only 58% of CSOs have a communication strategy. Especially at the local level, smaller organizations often manage communication processes with limited resources, without planning, and through individual efforts.
Today, many CSOs in Türkiye still see communication not as a strategic capacity but as a secondary function. Research, however, clearly shows that organizations with strong communication capacity are perceived as more trustworthy, effective, and inclusive.
This is exactly why we are setting out!
We imagine the Communications Working Group not as a project or a training program, but as a community of practice shaped by its participants through collective thinking — a space that grows, learns, and transforms over time.
Our vision is to create a shared space of production where communication professionals can come together to develop new approaches, content, and tools, while also highlighting the role of communication in democratic processes. We are designing a process where participants can co-experience campaign practices, contribute to a living archive of case studies and good practices, and collaboratively create a guide defining common principles, values, and communication language.
We aim to achieve this by expanding collaboration, acting together, and building a safe space for collective learning. Our goal is for the community to evolve into a sustainable structure that sets its own agenda and becomes self-managing over time.
The community is shaped by communication professionals participating through the guidance of their organizations. In this way, we safeguard continuity, diversity, and mutual accountability. Participants’ willingness to dedicate time to sharing, learning, and co-production processes — alongside the support of their institutions — are among the key pillars of this journey.
In the upcoming period, we will think together, learn together, and build together. Our aim is not only to transform today but also to reshape the future.
Because we know that:
Our aim is not only to transform today but also the future. As we ask, “What is possible together?” we want to strengthen the communication capacity of civil society through the power of collective wisdom and solidarity.
